Listen, Barnaby: You Should See "Wall-E"

Wall-E: loved it. But holy cats, could that movie have been any more depressing? Actually, maybe so. I don't know if this is a spoiler, but I could have seen the movie ending a completely different way if it had been made, say, in the 70's.
Well, I found the ending hopeful, but yes, as a whole it was pretty dark. Especially if "Hello, Dolly" is the only musical left on video after we all are shipped off the planet. Yikes! I'd much prefer "The Music Man", or even "An American in Paris"!
I think I found it depressing because the parts that were hopeful were the only parts that rang false to me. It did sort of make me want to watch "Hello, Dolly," but only sort of.
I enjoyed the animation and the first half of the story. The overall story is kind of preachy and heavy handed, but I do agree with the general message behind it. Talk about depressing, though, yeah. I posted about it a while back, adding insult to injury.
Oh, yeah, I had seen your post. That polluted river is so disturbing. Have you read The World Without Us? It gives me hope that even if we muck everything up entirely, or Jeebus calls all the people to heaven, or whatever, nature will survive in some form (perhaps more than just one vine in a hobo boot). It will take a while, but things will continue to evolve (of course, it would be best if we changed our ways also). I strongly recommend the book!
Now that I'm back from vacation, I'm hoping I'll get a chance to go see it.
