I am dismayed to hear that The Bryant Park Project is being cancelled by NPR. The BPP has been a less sedate way than Morning Edition to kick off my mornings at work. I've enjoyed most of the stories that the show has focused on (the power outages in Alaska, the investigation into murders at the childrens' home in Britain, for example) and the book club. Whenever I had a question about the show, I could easily reach Laura C. on Twitter. I think this easy communication between listeners and NPR is beneficial on all sides. It is disappointing that NPR is giving up on such an engaging program.
I've never really done the book club thing; I tend to be a solo reader. However - I have recently become a fan of NPR's Bryant Park Project. I listen to the podcasts since it's not played on KUT. It's like a news show/blog experiment. They are even on Twitter! Anyway, I'm diggin' it.
They started a Book Club on Friday and the choice for the month is In the Country of Men. So I'm going to get a copy from the library and try it out. We'll see!
What I'm listening to right now. . . I love Stars and haven't been able to catch them live yet. They will be in Austin next week, but I'm going to pass on the show. For one, it's on a Tuesday night (ugh), and two, I think Torquil Campbell (one of the lead singers) tends to flat in live performances. At least, he does in the live recordings I've heard. There are some bands I love and I don't feel the absolute need to see them live -- Stars is one of them.
Now the New Pornographers will be in town next weekend, and I am DEFINITELY going to see them.
