I had given up on Grey's Anatomy after Meredith died and then didn't, and then Izzie and George looked to be hooking up. I had to stop watching before things got much worse - so I skipped all last season and wasn't planning on going back. But then I read Alan Sepinwall's preview post for this season and he said about Grey's Anatomy and Desparate Housewives:
So I decided to give the show another try. And I'm glad I did, not just because the show was back to its first season goodness, but also because I had forgotten about the neat music the show uses. It's not all golden, but the first ep of this season used a song by an Los Angeles-based group I'd never heard of. I loved their harmonies, and found their album on eMusic. I've been listening to it pretty consistently since then. The band is called The Rescues and the song I've posted here is "Break Me Out (2.0)" (not the song used in the episode, but one of my faves from the album).if you gave up on either one because they seemed tired or just annoying in their familiarity, now might be a good time to try a return visit.
I swear Christmas advertising gets thrown upon us earlier and earlier each year. This year the ads started popping up on All Saint's Day. Next year, I estimate the ads to start showing Oct. 15.
I've already heard two familiar tunes used in this year's holiday ads. In Target's advent calendar ad, Jim Noir's "My Patch" has been changed to include holiday lyrics. Very, very strange. The ad:
And of course there is the constant barrage of Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles" in Zales' ads. This one saddens me because I really, really liked that song once upon a time. Now it just reminds me of the disgusting diamond trade.
I love when I discover these things on my own. I'm sure I could have looked on the internet for the song that Jem samples in "They" and found that it was The Swingle Singers version of Bach's "Prelude in F Minor". But I just happened to realize it when I downloaded the Swingle Singers' Jazz Sebastian Bach album off of eMusic. If you couldn't tell from an earlier post, I love hearing jazz takes on classical pieces.
I've been listening to this song over and over for the past two days. It's not a very complicated song melodically, and I'm not sure why I dig it so much. I think it's a mixture of the way Brandi Carlile sings it (she sounds like a good blend of k.d. lang and Melissa Etheridge in this song) and the simple lyrics. It almost sounds like a song that's already been done, that she is giving new life to. But I'm pretty sure it's an original song.
Yeah, I should probably just buy the album. I like pretty much all the songs I've heard by her.
Leah and I went to Target last night and I wasn't planning on buying anything. But then I saw they had CDs for sale, and I couldn't pass this one up:
I swear, Target is the only store where I give into such impulse buys. I started listening to the CD last night and overall, I'm glad I bought the CD. I just skip over "Promiscuous" because that song is SO tired.
I love the songs with Juanes ("Te busque", see above song) and Chris Martin ("All Good Things Must Come to an End"). And honestly, I had already downloaded most of the album from various mp3 blogs, so I knew most of it was good.
There's no one else like Otis Redding. This is one of my favorites of his songs.
